When I got the email that LEAD was cancelled I’m not going to lie, I was pretty bummed…over a few days that feeling quickly turned to being mad and then sad. LEAD is Beautycounter’s annual leadership conference that you have to qualify for to get an invite. It’s for Directors and above and I worked my tail off over the summer to qualify to get an invite. When I received my invitation in the fall, I was SO excited to be among the company’s leaders and have the opportunity to learn and grow from them! So when they cancelled it two weeks ago due to the Coronavirus ?I was SUPER bummed and let down. But I wasn’t the only one….thousands of women out of 50,000+ consultants were equally disappointed.
When you start your own side business you look forward to annual conferences to motivate, inspire and energize you for the coming year. Not to mention all the new swag and products you get! ?? It’s a chance to hear directly from the corporate leaders (in person) that you’ve only ever listened to via zoom or facebook video chat. I need the human interaction and the energy to feel alive and refueled. While we all have “up lines” and teams to “support us” it’s not the same and I know you know what I’m talking about. I’m also at a moment in my life where I needed some clarity and insight with like minded, dedicated and hard working women who also share a passion for clean beauty. We were all drawn to Beautycounter for different reasons but we stick around for the mission, advocacy work and safer products that make us feel and look great. That right there is a bond we have in common.
I think as a “stay at home” mom that doesn’t head off to a corporate office everyday, that it’s important to take the time to invest in YOU. What drives you? What motivates YOU and allows YOU the opportunity to do something outside of being a “mom.” Don’t get me wrong – I wouldn’t change being a stay at home mom for anything, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also want a career for myself. Let me be clear, I fully support and admire moms who work full time and raise their children. I couldn’t do that and I hold these amazing women in high regards for balancing it all.
When the kids are at school I want to feel accomplished, energized and motivated about what I am doing for ME. My children also look up to me and love “mommy’s side business.” They see a strong women and mom who wants to make a difference by getting safer beauty laws passed and safer products in everyone’s hands, who wants to educate friends and family to make safer choices and how important it is to make your own future and not be financially dependent on someone.
Deciding to join Beautycounter as a Consultant and Stella & Dot as a stylist was just the beginning and what ultimately led me to starting CALYgirl STYLD. It allowed me to take my business to the next level all while embracing and sharing my love for the California coast. The side money is also pretty awesome! It allows me to help out with after school activities, plan a vacation or as simple as treating my family to dinner. I feel empowered and lifted by the women and men I’ve met along the way who constantly lift me up, support me, energize me and encourage me to do and be more! For this community of strong, independent, like-minded women I am forever grateful.
I realized the motivation I needed all along was deep inside me and my inner “ROAR” just needed to be let out.
If you’re at all interested in joining the clean beauty movement, please reach out. The right time to join is always now. Be a part of the change to remove harmful toxins in our products for your safety and the safety of your children, friends and family. When we know better we do better.
